Complete Validation

The Complete Code Validation offers the highest level of assurance possible to clients who are reliant on a third party to maintain a licensed application that is critical to their business.

This option was devised to demonstrate that the code held in escrow can be built from source code into a working application at both the software vendors site, but also a secondary exercise to build the software at the users own site.

An SES consultant will work with the software owners/developers to capture all the pertinent information as described for the Full Code Validation.  We will then take the source code to the user’s location to conduct the second phase of the exercise. The second phase is a redeployment of the source code in the user’s environment, thus providing absolute assurance that the code held in escrow would allow the user to continue to use the application should the code need to be released to them.

This solution offers all of the protection and deliverables provided by the Full Code Validation, with the addition of the following key points:

  • Source code already verified  in advance by our own Full Code Validation service is removed as a complete code deposit from the vendors site
  • A full rebuild of the source code into a working application then takes place at a pre-agreed date in the users own environment
  • The SES consultant will conduct and control the build at the user’s site based on the build notes compiled whilst working with the developers at the owners site. However the users technical support staff are able to witness and familiarise themselves with the process. The software vendor is also invited to have representation on site
  • In completing this two phase exercise we are effectively simulating a code release procedure, allowing the user to plan  the deployment process at the users site in advance of any possible code release
  • This service assists in establishing a Disaster Recovery strategy by providing important data relating to the environment, hardware and third party software requirements, as well as providing definitive timelines  for deployment of the code into a workable application

A base level escrow agreement will automatically include the basic code deposit test which is designed to confirm that there is code present on the deposit, is virus free and in the event of an encryption we will ensure that we have the necessary passwords or access keys. Beyond this, the basic code deposit test does little to provide assurance that the deposit held is complete, useable code.

The Complete Code Validation has been designed to provide definitive assurance that the escrow beneficiary is able to manage/deploy the source code into a working application. In a worst case scenario involving the failure of a key software supplier, this service would prove to be an invaluable asset to any Disaster Recovery plan that your organisation might employ.
