29-April-2008 UK Software market falls into decline

The UK computer software market is moving towards a recession and one in five companies could disappear, according to analyst Plimsoll.

The Plimsoll study looked at how the UK slowdown is already affecting the software market.

The full analysis, to be published on 1 May, has drawn on the latest figures for each of the UK's top 2,000 companies in the software market.

Headline figures show over a third of companies are already showing signs of recessionary behaviour and reporting declining sales. This is immediate evidence that the market is slowing down, said Plimsoll.

Over half of companies have seen their margins fall. Over a quarter of these are running at a loss.

These companies are struggling against rising costs and declining sales, Plimsoll said

The analyst said 40 of these firms have seen an increase in their need for short-term finance, a sign that costs are running ahead of cash flow.

This is dangerous at a time when banks and financers are looking hard at their loan books, placing these companies in an even more vulnerable position.

As many as one in five software companies could disappear completely if this trend continues or deepens, Plimsoll predicted.

19-May-2006: SES Launch Multiple Licensee Key Encryption Escrow Agreement

Further to the success of our Individual Key Encryption Escrow Agreement we are pleased to announce the release of our Multiple Licensee Key Encryption Escrow Agreement for standard applications with Multiple users.

SES is first company in Europe to offer Key Encryption Escrow Agreements. The Key Encryption Agreement is a flexible alternative to the traditional Escrow Agreement because there is no testing of source code, the Agreement is simple and cost effective and can be implemented in a fraction of time it takes to establish a standard Escrow Agreement whilst offering maximum protection to the Licensee.

Under a Key Encryption Agreement the Licensee of the Software Application would hold the Encrypted Source Code under agreed terms with the Software Owner. This Encrypted Source Code can only be accessed by a Key Encryption which is held by SES. If a Trigger event occurs SES will release the Key Encryption to the Licensee so they can access the Encrypted Source Code in order to maintain the application for future business continuity.
