In many ways this solution simulates a mock release event, by carrying out a full build of the application from source code into a working application using materials already held in escrow, but in our own neutral, independent build environment.

An SES consultant will manage and control the build process as an independent third party within our own location.

Our consultant will liaise with the software vendor during the build process by telephone should any assistance be required, which of course would not be available in the event of a real release of source code occurring.

Crucially, the subsequent report will contain all the necessary hardware and third party build software information required, skills required and the timeline surrounding each stage of the build process.

Disaster recovery strategy can be defined as a result of the report documentation, such as identification of an appropriate third party to manage/maintain the application should the vendor fail.

In Summary

A base level escrow agreement will automatically include the basic code deposit test which is designed to confirm that there is code present on the deposit, is virus free and in the event of an encryption we will ensure that we have the necessary passwords or access keys. Beyond this, the basic code deposit test does little to provide assurance that the deposit held is complete, useable code. The SES Off-Site Validation has been designed to provide assurance that a third party vendor can be employed to manage/deploy the source code into a working application.

We at SES have developed our range of validation solutions in order to cover all scenarios where a source code build might be required following the demise of a software vendor. A basic escrow contract, with our basic validation check, does not provide this level of security.
